Microneedling can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including mild to moderate acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation), uneven skin texture, dullness, and stretch marks. Each Dr. Pen has a cartridge with attached needles. When you turn on your device and place it on the area you wish to treat, the cartridge needles will pulsate and glide along the skin to create deliberate trauma and micro-wounds in the upper layers of your skin. The body responds to these wounds by producing collagen and elastin fibers as a healing response. Over time, the skin becomes rejuvenated and reduces the appearance of fine lines, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and sagging skin, as well as brightens and improves overall texture and tone. Your level of discomfort will be determined by the needle length you choose and whether or not you apply a numbing cream. The shorter the length of the needle, the less discomfort you will feel. If your skin is sensitive, numbing cream is available over-the-counter at any pharmacy. Apply approximately ⅓ to ½ of the tube to the needled area, leave on for 20 minutes, and then remove thoroughly. After removing the cream, cleanse the skin once more. This is done to prevent numbing cream from entering the microchannels.

Applying a numbing cream prior to needling is recommended for needle lengths exceeding 1 mm. Applying hyaluronic acid will also help to lubricate your skin and alleviate some discomfort during the microneedling procedure.

Microneedling can safely be performed every 4-6 weeks.

For collagen induction you may require at least 3 treatments.

Scar reduction generally requires between 3 and 6 treatments.

As a general rule, 4-6 weeks should pass between one treatment and the next.

Nano-needling can be performed once per week.

You can use the same cartridge if it’s in the same treatment session for the face, neck and decolletage area.

The Dr. Pen can be used to microneedle your entire body. Face, neck, décolletage, hands, and hips are popular areas (for stretch marks). It is also possible to treat delicate areas such as the under-eye area.

Avoid needling over bony areas of the body (such as the legs or hands) when needling (especially on the legs).

Use only 36-42 pin cartridges when microneedling the body, and avoid using any active ingredients (such as acids or retinoids) after microneedling. We recommend 0.5mm needle depth for legs and up to 1.5mm for fattier areas of the body.

The cartridges are intended for single use only. We do not recommend that you reuse your cartridges for safety and hygiene reasons. Needles also dull with each use, and it is important that your needles stay sharp for the best microneedling results.
